At the helm of Bear/Pelland Associates is Lawrence W. “Buzz” Pelland.Buzz entered the financial service industry in June of 1971 and with the late Bernard Bear, established Bear/Pelland Associates in 1976.He is a Board Certified Financial Planner™ and is licensed in the State of Ohio as an Investment Advisor Representative with ALDA Advisors, Inc.Buzz is a registered representative with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) through ValMark Securities, Inc.He is also licensed in the states of Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina.
Buzz served as the Finance Director for the City of Fairlawn, an elected position, from 1982 through 2003.He was responsible for advising the Mayor and City Council on municipal affairs and in managing a budget of more than $14 million dollars.
He is also involved in many professional and community activities.He is a former Board member of the International Association of Financial Planners and is currently a member of The Financial Planning Association.He has served as advisor to the Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron Telethon Advisory Committee, and a past Charter member of the Summit/Stark Aluminum Cans for Burned Children program.The Akron Area YMCA recognized him as the Northwest Volunteer of the Year.He is a charter member and Past President of the Fairlawn Area Chamber of Commerce.Buzz was also Treasurer of the Fairlawn Community Development Corporation.
A member of St. Hilary Parish, Buzz has long been a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and is a Past President of the Parish Council, Parent Association and Booster Club.He has also served as President of the Parent Association and a member of the Finance Committee at Our Lady of the Elms High School.Buzz, a proud grandpa (the kids call him Pop!), is an avid golfer.He enjoys biking, hiking, playing tennis, photography and driving “his baby” . . . a bright red 1956 Ford Thunderbird!
